Race Of Champions event at 5 Mile Point Started Great, But Came to a Halt During the Feature...
October 28th, 2011: Making the long drive up to Five Mile Point Speedway, Team Lineman was all geared up and ready for a full night of action. The nights finale had a 100 lap feature on tap, and a nice purse set up for all drivers to go after. A huge field of 62 Modifieds stuffed the pits and awaited qualifying heats in order to make their way into the feature event. Lineman driving his trusty 2011 Troyer Chassis took to the track in the second heat race, where he started in the 5th position. The car was fast right off of the trailer, as Lineman raced his way to a solid 2nd place finish, and most importantly a guaranteed starting spot in the 100 lap event.
The crew didn't have to make many changes to the set up, as the track stayed the same throughout the qualifying and consi racing action. The luck of the draw had Bob starting in 12th for the main event, and with a full stacked field of competitors this was a great place to be. The green flag came out and Bob wasted little time make a charge forward, like he has done so many times this season. With the hammer down, and picking his lines Lineman picked off the 11th spot, then the 10th, followed by the 9th. Just a handful of laps into the event and Lineman was up to 6th and things were looking great for the driver of the Cenco Heating Oil, USA-1 Modified.
Then, just like that, going into turn 3, Bob was riding the high line and got caught up in the cushion which sent his car bouncing around in a half circle. That wasn't the end of the action, as a thundering herd of drivers all were coming full throttle right at his car. Bob recalls, "I think half of the field ran into my spun car, it was like I was a dart board, and all these darts were coming right at me." With the caution out Lineman limped his battered car into the pits in order to change 2 flat tires and was able to get back onto the speedway and not miss a lap. With more cautions coming out Bob kept going pit-side in order to have the crew work on more repairs. Bob gave it everything he could, but with the body and some parts not being able to be replaced on caution laps he finally parked the car for the night, instead of having anymore damage come his way.
