ANOTHER TOUGH OUTING IN THE MAIN AT N.E.S. PROMPTS TEAM LINEMAN TO TRAVEL TO 5 MILE POINT SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT...
August 28th Racing Update: I see it all the time, every week, week after week, a driver, and a team gets a dark cloud that seems to follow them around their regular Saturday night speedway. That being said, we are not talking about them getting rained on with drops coming out of the sky, more to the point, they get rained on with all the bad luck you can think of, and more.
Case in point, the prior week Bob Lineman Jr. was on a mission, with a brand new Medford Speed & Machine power-plant under the hood of the Cenco Heating Oil, USA-1, Troyer Sportsman Modified. Everything was going pretty good in the feature, and Bob was moving forward, which in dirt track racing, or any kind of motorsports that is a key to doing well. Hold the phones, stop the presses, there goes Bob heading into the infield, leaving everyone wondering what happened? A spark plug was broken by a stone, or one heavy piece of the racing surface, causing the normal 8 cylinder engine to falter and spit and sputter because it was only firing on 7 cylinders now. If you can't go, you have to get out of the way, or else you will be a sitting duck, and Bob of course pulled off to avoid any more back luck.
Now, a new Saturday night, and you and your crew drill it into your heads that this week will be different, that things will all fall into place, and you will leave with your car in one piece, along with a top five finish. That's not asking to much now is it? Well, with the heat race under way things seemed to go bad from the get go, as a slow leaking right rear, and no cautions would mean that Bob would have to ride it out and hope for the best. Well, that didn't work, as the leak got worse, and the car was beyond being a handful, so after 6 laps Lineman took the car pit side.
Consi time, and a last chance effort to make the show, even though you know by making the feature you will be starting way back in the pack, but at least you can say you were in the feature. Well, Lineman came out and did his job, taking the USA-1 from the 6th starting spot and raced into the 3rd spot and earned himself a place in the main event. It must have been a full moon, and come to think of it I believe it was, because in the feature guys were bumping, and banging, and pushing, and trying their best to cause accidents rather then race cleanly and try and move forward. Starting 21st in the feature and with cars darting high, and low, Lineman just could not make the moves that he needed to really make an impact and move forward.
By the time the checkered was waving Bob managed to avoid all the accidents that happened in front of him, and around him, and the car was still by most standards still in one piece. The final results show that Lineman finished in 17th, which was even better then he thought, as he said I think I finished maybe 18th, or 20th, I don't know, it was a mess out there tonight. Lineman said via telephone that the team will be taking a break this weekend from NES, and going on a road trip to 5 Mile Point just for a change of pace, and more so hopefully a change of luck.
