Lineman Dominates Heat, But Ignition Wows Lead to a DNS in the Feature New Egypt Speedway 04.17.10 Race Recap
After a long Winter's wait, Bob Lineman, Jr., and the rest of the Lineman Race Team were more then ready to get back to dirt track modified racing. After a very good 2009 season, the team is looking forward to more good fortune in 2010. Lineman posted some impressive finishes at several different tracks in 2009, and he also picked up a win at Bridgeport before leaving the speedway in pursuit of finding his first win at New Egypt Speedway.
Opening night at New Egypt was going to be a big test, because for one Lineman only raced on the New Jersey track just one time in 2009, and the team really didn't have a set up figured out for the fast little track which is much smaller then Bridgeport, but one which is very tricky and fast all in it's own. Lineman wasted little time as he basically blew the doors off of all his competition in his heat race, and by the time he took the checkered he had a clear half track between himself and the second place finisher. Yes, oh yes, 2010 was starting off just right, this is the way things are supposed to be.
The crew prepped the Cenco Heating, USA-1, Troyer Chassis for Bob and got him out onto the speedway for the feature. Then, just when you thought this was going to be the night, the unthinkable happened, the sound of an engine breaking up, backfiring, sounding like it was on it's last cylinder, and then, nothing. You guessed it, Lineman's car was spitting, sputtering, and missing the beat, and then nothing at all. Bob would have to be pushed back into the pits before he even took the green flag. The fans were disappointed and dejected, after all, the show Lineman put on in his heat race had made him a crowd favorite early in the nights events. But nobody was more disappointed then Bob, and the rest of the race team.
During the week, it was discovered that the pick-up on the distributor went bad. It must have happened right after the heat had ended, so nobody knew that there would be a problem when it came to the feature, if they had they might have been able to fix the car before the start of the event. All in all, it was a positive night, a heat win in the books, and knowing that it was only a small problem, and not a major issue with the power plant put everyone's mind at ease.
