March 28th, 2011: Funny, just a few days after I posted the press release telling everyone how this year felt just a little bit different, and things might be a little bit better, well, Bob Lineman Jr. proved to me I was right. You can just tell when a driver is confident about an upcoming season, and this was definitely the case as Bob explained to me just how excited he was to have that new 2011 Troyer Max Flex chassis, loaded with a fresh and potent Medford Speed and Machine racing engine built by Jerry Glenn sitting under the hood of the Cenco Heating Oil, USA1 Sportsman Modified.
Everything started off just the way every race driver, and car owner, and race crew alike wants it to. Lineman drew the pole in his qualifying heat race and with only have a handful of hot laps on a brand new chassis he managed to hold his own just fine and finished 2nd, which meant he had a good chance at a top starting spot for the feature. The crew went over every nut and bolt on the car, and made a few adjustments based on the conditions they thought would work during the feature. Bob started the feature event in the 8th spot, not bad, not bad at all for the first race of the 2011 season.
Things were a little hairy during the beginning laps of the feature, as Bob fell back to 12th place in the field. Lineman worked a little each lap, and on the caution laps by making some in cockpit adjusts to the chassis. By the half way point Lineman was on the move, and you could tell the driver with the new chassis was heading front with a big spring in his step. Lineman climbed into the top 5, and then the top 3, and before anyone realized it he had taken the top spot and was looking to capture not only the ROC Sportsman Modified Feature, but also his first ever Feature win at New Egypt Speedway. Well, at the end, when the checkered was waving, the car that passed under it first, and across the finish line was non other then Bob Lineman Jr., in the USA-1 Doylestown Express.
Great job to Bob, it's nice to see the team starting off on such a high note. Plans will see Bob, and the Lineman Racing Team traveling to Penn Can Speedway on April 14th to compete in an open Sportsman Modified show.
